Saturday’s Best is an upscale formal wear collection inspired by my favorite childhood show, The PJ’s - a claymation set in a Chicago Housing project. This collection’s silhouettes are inspired by 1920s Zoot Suits, which popularized in Chicago among jazz musicians and minority party-goers. These suits were expensive and traditionally passed down to the next generation as hand-me-downs. This collection’s details and fabrications are inspired by the fingerprints left on modeling clay when being shaped and altered during the film-making process. The clay’s smooth matte texture is mirrored using leather, and the fingerprints are achieved through carving, molding, and trapunto fabric manipulation.
